On 25th May, we had the wonderful opportunity to visit "Animal Matters to Me", an NGO based in Malad West, Mumbai, that is doing incredible work in rescuing and rehabilitating cats and dogs. Many of these animals have been injured in road accidents, abandoned by their families, or left behind because housing societies don’t allow pets. Some are simply unwanted. This NGO provides them with shelter, medical treatment, and — most importantly — love.

They even have an on-site animal hospital to care for the injured and critically ill animals.

A Story:

While we were there, the team shared a story about one dog. A family had gone on vacation and left their dog locked inside their house, completely alone. Days passed. The poor dog was starving, scared, and utterly isolated. Eventually, someone noticed and called the NGO. The team rushed in and rescued the dog - just in time. It's unimaginable to think of what the poor animal went through, but it’s stories like this that remind us why NGOs like this matter so much.

Our Experience:

We visited as a group of 10 people, reaching the center around 8:00 AM. The NGO team welcomed us warmly with refreshments and snacks - a kind and thoughtful gesture that set the tone for the day.

We spent time interacting with the animals, petting them, playing with them, and just being present. According to the NGO volunteers, animals can truly sense kindness, and from the wagging tails and purring cats, it seemed they appreciated our visit.

We met dogs of various breeds - including Huskies, Indie dogs, and even a Rottweiler. One Rottweiler, in particular, was extremely aggressive due to past trauma. He was kept in a gated area, and only a dedicated caretaker was allowed to enter. Even the regular staff maintained a safe distance - a strong reminder of how deeply animals can be affected by mistreatment or neglect.

There was also a separate area for dogs who were seriously injured and under medical care. That section was quiet and somber, but seeing the care and dedication from the volunteers gave us hope.

Final Thoughts

Our visit to "Animal Matters to Me" was a powerful experience - one that reminded us of the importance of empathy, responsibility, and community. It wasn’t just about giving back; it was about connecting with voiceless souls who deserve love and care just as much as any human.

If you’re ever looking for a way to make a difference - even a short visit, a small donation, or simply spreading the word - can have a lasting impact.

Let’s continue to support those who support them.
