Indore is not just famous for its food; it’s quickly becoming a hub for live events too. On 8th June, I got the chance to attend Ravi Gupta’s stand-up comedy show in Indore, and it was a laughter-packed evening.

Although the show was scheduled for 7:00 PM, it actually began around 7:30 PM with an energetic opening act by Saurabh Pandey, who set the mood just right with his sharp observations and quick wit. Then came the main attraction - Ravi Gupta.

I had booked a VIP-2 ticket, and the seating arrangement was well-organized, divided into four sections. The venue, Essentia Luxury Hotel, added a touch of elegance to the night. Its ambiance, lighting, and acoustics made it the perfect setting for a comedy show. The show was organizedby B3 Laughing Club.

Ravi’s set was a brilliant mix of small-town anecdotes, Indori culture, UP ke log, Bhojpuri dubbing of Spiderman, over-the-top South Indian movie action, and everyday life hilarities - all tied together with his signature desi flavor.

What really stood out was his impeccable comic timing and relatable punchlines, which kept the audience rolling in laughter throughout.

Indore & the Poha Addiction

One of the most hilarious parts of his set was about Indore’s legendary obsession with poha. Here’s a snippet:

“Indore me log sharab thoda kam pite hai... yaha log pohe ka nasha karte hai.

Aisa nasha pohe ka hai yaar, din raat poha hi chal raha hai!

Ek jagah main khaana khaane gaya, waha 3 kilo poha de diya!

Mujhe laga poha khaalunga to kuch aur milega... fir 2 kilo aur de diya!

Sukha poha achha nahi lag raha tha... aao pohe me paani milate hain!

Aisa nasha hota hai pohe me jo kisi sharab me nahi hai!”

He nailed the delivery - with the perfect expressions and pauses - making it impossible not to laugh!

Another crowd-favorite bit was:

“UP kabhi train mat jaana… aur agar jaana padhe to chappal pehnke mat jaana.

Log tumhara chappal pehn ke washroom chale jaayenge, tumse bina pooche…

Mujhe washroom jaana hai aur mera chappal nahi mil raha hai…

Main baju wali aunty ka sandal pehen ke jaa raha hoon… catwalk karte hue!”

He also shared school memories like:

“Class mein koi bhi harkat kar raha ho, puri class pit jaati thi…

Jo guilty hoga, wo apne aap hi pit jaayega… masterstroke!”

“Jo padhai mein tez hote hain, unke andar ek chul hoti hai…

Unko duniya ko batana hota hai ki main tez hoon…

Exam mein likhte-likhte hawa mein haath uthate hain —

Nayi sheet nahi… kehte hain - 'Ye sawal hi galat hai!'

Arey?

Sirf yahi to sawaal kiya tha maine! Main 3 ghante se isi ko likh raha hoon! aur ye kehta hai ki sawal hi galat hai.."

“Kabhi kehte hain — 'Sir, kal to aapne test lene ke liye bola tha, aur aap padhaane lag gaye!'”

Kids These Days vs. Our Childhood

"Aaj kal chhote-chhote bachchon mein bahut attitude aa gaya hai…

'Main noodles nahi khaunga… pasta bilkul nahi khaunga…

Aap logon ko khilana nahi aata!'"

"Hum chhote the… aur kehte the - 'Mummy nahi khaunga parso ki roti…'

Hamari mummy ussi waqt muh mein thhus ke bolti thi - 'Khaayega to tera baap bhi!'”

"Aap yaad karo… hamari mummiya kitni shaatir hoti thi…

Humein pitne ke baad thodi der mein unhe pachtawa hota tha… aansu aa jaate the…

Abhi tumhi to gira ke maar rahi thi!

Ye kaisa psycho behaviour hai?

Abhi toh dho rahi thi… mummy ko maata aa gayi thi…

Aadha ghanta pitne ke baad achanak ehsaas hota hai -

'Arey mera munna! Zor se lag gayi kya?'"

The show wrapped up at 9:20 PM. Ravi Gupta’s storytelling is effortless, and his humor - deeply rooted in real life.

Whether it’s poha, Indian moms, UP train stories, or classroom drama - he turns every ordinary moment into a comedy goldmine.

If you ever get the chance to see him live - don’t miss it.
