Traveling with family is always special, especially when the destination is filled with natural beauty, royal heritage, and a peaceful escape from the daily hustle. In March 2017, our family set out on a beautiful journey to two of Rajasthanโs most captivating destinations - Mount Abu and Udaipur.
๐ 1st March 2017 - Journey from Ujjain to Mount Abu
Our trip began on the 1st of March around 11 AM from Ujjain. Packed with excitement and snacks, we hit the road for Mount Abu - the only hill station in Rajasthan. The drive was long but scenic, offering glimpses of changing landscapes as we moved from Madhya Pradesh to Rajasthan.
After a nearly 9-hour journey, we reached Mount Abu by 8 PM. We hadnโt booked a hotel in advance but were fortunate enough to find a good one on the spot. Since it wasnโt peak tourist season, we got a decent deal and a comfortable place to stay. Post check-in and freshening up, we enjoyed a relaxed dinner at the hotel itself and called it a night.
๐ Fateh Sagar Lake
Later, we explored Fateh Sagar Lake, another gem in Udaipur. Surrounded by hills, it has a more local vibe with food stalls and evening crowds. Itโs also home to Nehru Park, which can be reached by a boat ride.
๐ฃ๏ธ Back to Ujjain
After an eventful day, we bid goodbye to Udaipur in the evening. The journey back to Ujjain was quiet, with everyone either sleeping or reliving the beautiful memories. We reached home around 2 AM.
This trip to Mount Abu and Udaipur was more than just sightseeing - it was about bonding, laughter, new experiences, and the joy of discovering new places together as a family. Mount Abu gave us tranquility and nature, while Udaipur dazzled us with royalty and lakeside charm.
๐ Honeymoon Point
Next, we visited Honeymoon Point, also known as Anadara Point. This spot offers a stunning view of the sun setting behind the Aravalli ranges. The cool breeze and the panoramic view made it a perfect photo spot.
๐ Nakki Lake
Our first stop was the serene Nakki Lake, a man-made lake surrounded by hills and rock formations. We took a peaceful boat ride, soaking in the beauty of the landscape. Legend has it that the lake was dug out by gods using their nails (nakh), hence the name "Nakki."
๐ 2nd March 2017 โ Exploring the Charm of Mount Abu
Mount Abu was refreshing - literally. The cool air, the lush greenery, and the calm ambiance instantly made us fall in love with the place.
๐ Dilwara Temples
A must-visit in Mount Abu, the Dilwara Jain Temples left us in awe. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, these temples are known for their stunning marble carvings that are nothing short of architectural poetry. The intricacy of the work was mesmerizing, and the spiritual vibe was calming.
๐ Guru Shikhar
Finally, we headed to Guru Shikhar, the highest point of the Aravalli range. The view from the top was breathtaking. The air was so fresh and crisp - it felt like we were touching the clouds.
๐๏ธ Mount Abu Highlights
Scenic mountain views and cool climate
Beautiful lakes like Nakki
Sunset points and natural rock formations
A mix of adventure, nature, and serenity
After a fulfilling day, we left Mount Abu at night for our next destination - Udaipur, the City of Lakes.
๐ 3rd March 2017 - Udaipur Diaries
We reached Udaipur around 11 PM and checked into our hotel. Udaipur had a royal charm even at night, and we were excited for the next day's exploration.
๐ Lake Pichola
We then headed to the famous Lake Pichola. A boat ride on the lake with a view of the Lake Palace and Jag Mandir is something Iโll always remember. The reflections of palaces on the calm waters during the day were picture-perfect.
๐ City Palace
Our first stop was the majestic City Palace, standing tall on the banks of Lake Pichola. Itโs a massive complex with museums, courtyards, balconies, and towers, showcasing the grandeur of the Mewar dynasty. The intricate architecture, antique furniture, royal costumes, and weaponry gave us a peek into Rajasthanโs regal past.
๐ Saheliyon Ki Bari
Next, we visited Saheliyon Ki Bari (Garden of the Maidens), a beautiful garden with fountains, marble pavilions, and lush greenery. Built for the queen and her companions, the garden was peaceful and elegant - a lovely place to unwind.

๐ Wax Museum
Before wrapping up, we also visited the Udaipur Wax Museum, which had wax statues of various celebrities and historical figures. It was a fun and quirky experience, especially for the kids.
